In India the Marriage Certificate is issued as per the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 if both husband and wife applying for the certificate is Hindu, Sikh, Jain or Buddhist. If one of them or neither the husband nor the wife is Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh or Jain then the marriage certificate will be issued under the Special Marriage Act.
Application form for Marriage Certificate
The application form for Marriage certificate can be obtained and submitted at the office of the Additional District Magistrate of your region during the office hours of any working day.
Documents Required for Marriage Certificate- Application form having signatures of both husband and wife
- Proof of Age
- Passport sized photographs of both husband and wife
- One photograph taken at the time of marriage
- Invitation card of marriage (optional)
- Certificate from the priest if marriage was conducted at any religious place.
- Registration fee
- If one of the applicant is widow or widower they need to submit attested copy of the death certificate of their spouse
- If one of the applicant is a divorcee they need to submit the attested copy of their divorce
- If one of the applicants does not belong to Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh or Jain religion they need to submit the conversion certificate from the priest who conducted the marriage ceremony.
A Gazetted Officer must attest all the documents submitted along with the application form for Marriage Certificate.
