The Indian rules of motor vehicle act 1988 of provisions underneath 39 proclaim that vehicles are to be registered as a legal requirement. Cars, which are getting registered under this act, only have the permission to get on to the road. All vehicles are registered in the RTO (Road Transport Office) and this step helps you to access the ownership of your car. Each vehicle has its own different fees to be submitted.

Non commercial vehicles forms the one used for personal or own purposes. They include cars, scooter and motor cycle. Commercial vehicles forms the vehicles used to transport goods and passengers. They include buses, trucks, and taxi vehicles.
Temporary Registration:
A temporary registration is a must to take away the car from the dealers. Initially vehicles (public) get the temporary registration only for 7 days and it can be lengthened to 30 days more. This time can be further extended with the permission granted from concerned authority.

- Monetary papers or bank identities have to be attached if the purchase is in lease or hire agreement.
- The purchase of the car from another city or state has to get a temporary registration number to take away the vehicle from the dealer for registration in your own city/state. The owner can register the vehicle afterwards under the transport authority in a specified time given by the authority.
- Form - 29 and Form - 30 are used to transfer the registration, when the car dealer has not used the car after paying a premium. This condition is applied when the vehicle is not purchased from a showroom.
- The documents submitted are well verified by the concerned authority after a detailed examination of the vehicle and a registration number is issued to them.
- One needs to provide certain valid documents that are indicated underneath for the process of car registration in India.
Documents to be produced at the time of registration:
- Official document regarding new sale of a vehicle or proof of purchase.
- Road worthiness document
- Original temporary registration paper
- Form number 60
- Attested Xerox of Car insurance document
- Owner’s address proving documents such as the attested copy of passport, pan card, Telephone bills, electricity bills and LIC policy documents.
The RTO will issue the registration number after the verification of the documents produced by the owner. Do see that all the documents are submitted for registration.
