Disability Certificate

A Disability Certificate is a document for a person with disability which acts as a proof for his/her disability. It plays a vital role when acquiring certain benefits and facilities and the rights that are offered by both the central as well as the state government. These various benefits are offered by the government under the various appropriate legislation.

The procedure for the format, issuance and the assessment of this Disability Certificate for any individual has been provided by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for all the Medical boards of District Civil hospitals. Though there are certain procedures in getting the Disability certificate are available, yet depending upon the difficulties that are faced by various disabled people lying in these existing procedures and in obtaining this certificate all over the country, the Ministry of social justice and empowerment is under the process of providing certain other comments and suggestions for those concerned agents who issue this certificate.

The following are the conditions that should be satisfied by a disabled individual for the eligibility criteria in obtaining the Disability Certificate. The first and foremost thing is that the individual must be an Indian citizen. They should possess the appropriate medical reports with detailed explanation on their disability. 40% would be the minimum degree of disability for the eligibility.

The following would provide you with the steps to obtain a Disability Certificate. Either the parent of the disabled individual or the person himself/herself should go to the district hospital directly with the request for the certificate.

The following documents are required to be submitted at the time of request: i) a copy of identity of the person with two photographs that shows the disabled part of the person and ii) a copy of all the medical reports as a medical proof of disability.
