Indian Passport for Minor,Newborn and Infants,Kids and Children

Indian Passport for Minor
In India children under the age of fifteen years are considered as minors. To obtain anIndian Passport for Minor has a separate procedure. An ordinary passport for a child below the age of 15 years, containing thirty-six pages shall be in force for a period of 5 years from the date of its issue or until the child attains the age of 15 years, which ever is earlier.
For minors there are some additional documents required for Indian Passport. Following are the additional documents for Indian Passport for Minor,
  • Attested Photocopies of first four and last four pages of valid Passport, if any, of at least one parent in which the other parent's name is entered OR photocopies of application fee receipt in case parents’ passports are under process at Regional Passport Office. Parent's passport should have the same address as that in the minor's application in the Present Address column.
  • An affidavit by both parents giving their consent to the issue of a passport to their minor child. If one of the parents of the minor applicant is abroad, an affidavit conveying his/her No Objection to issue of passport to the minor, countersigned by the authorized officer in the Indian Mission abroad should be furnished.
  • If the minor applicant is solely in the care of a single parent an affidavit should be submitted.
  • In case of legally divorced parents, the order from the competent court ordering the custody of the child is required to be attached to the application unless the divorce decree itself contains the order pertaining to the custody of the child.
  • In case of separated but not divorced parents, an affidavit to be submitted by the parent applying for minor child's passport.
  • If the minor applicant is in the care of legal guardian then sworn affidavits respectively should be furnished.
  • Birth certificate/School certificate towards proof of date of birth and name of parents.
For adopted Child
In the case of an adopted child, application should be submitted by the adopting parents along with Adoption Deed registered with the Registrar. A court order in respect of guardianship and permitting the child to be taken out of the country is necessary for issuing the passport. For children adopted from Orphanages / Charitable institutions, the order of the competent Court granting custody of the child to the adopting parents is also required to be furnished along with the application.

Indian Passport for Newborn and Infants
While applying for the first time for the Indian Passport for New Born and Infants, the details of valid passports held by both or either parents should be furnished in the application form. For new born and infants the passport will be issued without any police verification. In the cases where the parents do not hold valid passports, applications for such infants can be made on the basis of three documents of out of following fourteen documents,
  • Electro Photo Identity Card
  • Service Identity Card issued by State/Central Government
  • SC/ST/OBC certificates
  • Freedom fighter Identity Cards
  • Arms Licenses
  • Property Documents such as Pattas, Registered deeds e.t.c
  • Ration Cards
  • Pension documents
  • Railway Identity Cards
  • Income Tax Identity Cards
  • Bank/Post office passbooks
  • Student Identity Cards
  • Driving licenses
  • Birth Certificates
In general, the passport validity for the new born and infants is given for 5 years only. In case of single parent and children born out of wedlock or in case of parents who are judicially separated, a sworn affidavit before a magistrate, stating the facts of the case along with proofs must be submitted. In normal case the signature/consent of both the parents is required for the issue of passport to Newborn and Infants. The physical appearance of the child may be required sometimes.
Passport Application Form
There are two ways to get a passport application form, one is to register online and take a print out of the application form and second is to directly get the application form from nearest passport office or speed post centers.
Guidelines to fill the application Form
As the passport application form is machine readable, there are some guidelines to fill in the application form. 
  • Use Capital letters only.
  • Use black or blue ball pen only.
  • Leave on box after completing a word while filling in the boxes.
  • Write clearly in the boxes with out touching the boundaries.
  • Adjust the information to fit in the given number of boxes.
  • Do not write anything outside the box. Avoid over-writing.
  • Complete the applications in full.
Apply for Passport
If you have registered online then you will be given a appointment date and time, you need to submit the printed application form in the passport office at the given date and time. The passport application can be submitted at
  • The counter of the passport office
  • The speed post centers
  • District passport cells
  • Passport collection centers
An application for a passport may be submitted personally or through a representative carrying an authority letter.

The kids and children who are under the age of 18 are considered as minors in India. While applying for the first time for the Indian Passport for Kids and Children, the details of valid passports held by both or either parents should be furnished in the application form. In the cases where the parents do not hold valid passports, applications for such children can be made on the basis of three documents out of following fourteen documents,
