I have to suggest various mutual funds products to my customer’s.For this I want to collect various data’s of mutual fund and analyze it carefully. Normally the mutual fund reports can be downloaded from website in text (notepad) format. But for doing analysis we need the data’s in Excel format.
So the problem in front of me is that, each text separated with comma, space, full stop need to be entered in to excel cells. But doing it manually will take hours to complete or impossible in a busy work schedule. But Excel function “Convert Text to Columns Wizard”will guide you to complete the task in seconds.
So to convert the text file into excel file for analyzing the data, follow the below steps
1.please find the screen shot of text file which I am going to copy paste it new excel sheet or it is here to download
2. Now open a new excel sheet and paste the content of the txt file
3. Now the content of Text file will get pasted in Colum A of Excel File. Click on the column header to select the entire column A. Click on the Data tab in the ribbon (menu) and then Text to Columns in the Data Tools group.
4. Clicking on the above command opens the Convert Text to Columns Wizard. As seen below. Make sure that file type selected is Delimited.
5.Now click Next button in Convert Text to Columns Wizard , since you can see the text file the data’s are separated by semicolon , so semicolon is the parameter which we use to separate the data in to various fileds.(in some text file, it might be comma, space, tab, any other in my text file it is semicolon, so please go through your text file before doing this step)so now click the semicolon and now you can able to see the preview of the data how it is going to display after finishing the process. Now click Next Button in that wizard, you will be getting the below screen shot.
6.Now you can format the data in to various formats you need. If you want you format. Otherwise click finish button. The below mentioned screen will display.
7. Now click ok button . once you click ok button you can see the data get separated . please find the below screen shot. . now you can align format and do the analyze
