ERP System Development Life Cycle

In the CA-Final's second lesson, you will learn "System Development Life Cycle Methodology". But many students still do not understand what is in this lesson. Which system has to develop and what is the role of accountant and auditor for developing it?

Above are the major questions which comes in the mind of young students of accounting who is studying CA. So, dear students, second lesson is talking about ERP System development. ERP is the advance software which manage not only accounting but manage all the major functions of business through computer database and advance process. With ERP Package of Software, you can make the system to manage accounting, inventory, customers, vendors, sales, services and shipping.


So, it will be necessary to develop it after deep thinking otherwise, you will just waste your money in your hardware and software. Accountants and auditors can play a great role in developing ERP system because both are know the nervous system of business. They take the taste of water in different business industry, so, they explain better what should be in the ERP system than a developer. Developer is just designer but accountant and auditors are real user. So, if they will not adjust in the ERP system, business can not get good return on the investment on ERP System. 

Now, understand what is ERP System development life cycle ( ERP - SDLC)

Meaning of ERP - SDLC

We know ERP System is developed through C, C++ and Java and other computer languages. it is developed by a developer. But developer is not wel-known to the business processing. Business expert team has to give the set of steps to developer for doing activities in this software. For recording and processing of any business activity, what step will be taken first and what be second and so on in the ERP system development. So, all these written guidelines will be the ERP system development life cycle. Moreover, it show the complete structure of this system development. 

 In general ERP -SDLC, following are the phases. 

1. Preliminary investigation 

(a) Identification of problem
(b) Identification of objective
(c) Delineation of scope
(d) Feasibility study

2. System requirements analysis
3. System design
4. System development programming
5. System Implementation 
6. Post implementation review and maintenance
